The 2022 Senior Closed Championship is now open for Entries.
Will John's knees survive another onslaught from the challenging pack? Will Aoife win three Mixed A’s in a row? Will Susan’s Singles Round Robin exploits be enough to deliver a first Club Championship?
So many questions to be answered. What we do know is that the B & C Singles Cups (Men’s and Ladies) will have new names on them this year.
Just a few points to note:
The Closed starts on the 28th September 2022 and finishes on the 8th October 2022.
You may enter up to three events.
For the Doubles Events please choose “Partner Required”. There is a draw for Partners for all Doubles Events.
There is a plate event running for 1st round losers in all events.
Depending on the numbers we may have separate Grade 5/6 Doubles. For now, please enter Event B if you are graded 5/6.
If you are a new member and have not been Graded, you will need to get graded. A grading session is still being coordinated but you can still enter the closed in the meantime by creating a TI account and then enter B Events.
This will be our first time back in the GAA bar for Prize-giving. Looking forward to that!.

.The Annual Corner House Cup League kicked off on Thursday 3rd February 2022 and ran for 4 weeks culminating in Finals Night on 3rd March 2022.
The Winners of the Corner House Cup were Handy Smurfs - Siobhan, Jack, Kate & Michelle.
The Runners-up were Harmony Smurfs - Steff, Eoghan, Tom & Eimhin
Many Thanks to The Corner House for their generous Sponsorship.
There was a new Event on our Competitions Calendar this year which was run over four Thursday Nights.
The Spin Masters qualified for the Final while The Pandemics and The Boggles faced each other in a Semifinal where The Pandemics were the Victors.
Jack’s Pandemics triumphed in the end over Donal’s Spin Masters in the final. Jack attributed their success to something he brought back from his travels. Donal didn’t mention once his team’s failure being down to his team not getting any semi final practice (he mentioned it 10 times actually!). Many thanks to all the supporters and to Alison for her famous sausage rolls. Roll on the Corner house cup in February.

Carrigaline Tennis Club’s Open Doubles Tournament was cancelled this year due to Covid-19 restrictions. However, the Annual Closed Tournament will still go ahead from 26th August to September 5th. With expected full entry, some great tennis is guaranteed over the ten days. Hopefully the weather will suit the sport.
The main sponsor this year for the Closed is Astra Construction Services Ltd. Stephen McCarthy MD, very generously presented a cheque to our treasurer, Fiona Geary, Eddie Pierce our Chairperson and Alan Kelly our captain. This sponsorship certainly helps with the running of the tournament.
Astra Construction Ltd have been building homes in Carrigaline for over 35 years and are currently constructing the Janeville estate at the entrance to the town.
Stephen McCarthy, owner of Astra, is present every day to oversee the development of this large site. Janeville is a long term project and Stephen will continue to provide excellent ‘A’ rated houses to the people of Cork and Carrigaline for many years to come.
Stephen is an avid supporter of sports and plays the odd game of tennis too. He may well tog out for the tournament.
As always, behind every well run tournament, there is an organised team. Alan Kelly is our club captain and gives very generously of his time to ensure the success of the competition all under the watchful eye of our chairperson Eddie Pierce. We acknowledge that the tournament would not be allowed to run if it were not for the COVID committee being so vigilant.
So without further ado, let the games begin and win, lose or draw, we wish every player lots of fun. Agnes Ryan PRO

Amidst all the disappointments and cancellations of recent months, we are very grateful that our annual Closed Tournament is going ahead, starting this Wednesday. Unfortunately, according to the latest health guidelines, there will be no spectators allowed. However, players will be allowed to have a complimentary cup of tea or coffee after their match, and the marquee will be set up in the car park for this purpose. To facilitate this, we are asking for volunteers to do a 2 hour shift in the kitchen to make the tea/coffee, wash up the cups, and to regularly sanitize frequently used touch points. There will be very little to do during the 2 hour shift, so you may have to watch some tennis to pass the time. Only one person per shift is needed. Monday-Friday shifts will begin at 6pm, Saturday at 10am, and Sunday at 6pm due to Summer Cup matches that day. If you would like to volunteer to do a kitchen shift, please contact Aoife. Thanks in advance.
The Annual Corner House Internal Spring League Doubles ran from 30th January to 13th February. Finals were held on Thursday 20th February.
A sincere thanks to the Corner House for their continued sponsorship.
