Kitchen Volunteers Needed

Kitchen – 2023 Astra Summer Open.
As usual every year the success of the open falls on a lot of members. A lot of work goes into the running of this event and the tournament committee, kitchen committee, green committee for example undertake a lot of work behind the scenes but with out the help of the club members that help in the running of the kitchen it wouldn’t make the event as good as it is.
We appreciate very much all the help and time members provide volunteering in the kitchen and this year we have tried to make it a bit easier for everyone.
Menu has been simplified to just toasted sandwiches during the weekdays, First weekend we have a catering truck on site so only cakes, sweets, soft drinks, and alcohol will be on sale in the kitchen.
Semi final nights we have a BBQ on both nights also so no food being served in the kitchen either of these nights also.

As per every year you can register HERE for times slots you can volunteer for and what days you can provide baked goods, cakes, and salads.
Alternatively you can Text Gina Molloy and let her know what availability you have, and she will in turn allocate you a slot.
Everyone’s help is very much appreciated so thanks in advance.

Carrigaline Tennis Club Spring Open 2023

Carrigaline Tennis Club recently held its annual Spring Open Tournament, the event was sponsored by Haven Electrical.
This event is run annually and for many players it marks the beginning of their 2023 tournament season. It is always a hugely successful event for the club and this year proved to be no different, with a strong entry across all grades and superb tennis being played daily.
The Tournament ran from the 22nd March to the 1st April and welcomed players from tennis clubs across Cork City and County. Players and spectators enjoyed the ambience and great food provided by the club members daily.
Running a tournament is never easy and takes a lot of hard work and planning. Club Captain Donal Lennon did a great job in organising this event but of course as the old saying goes ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ or in this case a club. The success of the tournament would not have been possible without the members who volunteered their time and efforts to the kitchen, baking goods every day, providing cooked meals and salads, and those who were
on office duties throughout the tournament.
The tournament committee also ran two raffles with great prizes for each. The main raffle was organized by Louise Cogan and the green raffle organised by the clubs green committee which encouraged players and spectators to travel ‘Green’ to the club by car-
pooling, walking or biking. There was a great entry for both raffles.
Finals day went off without a hitch and a lovely sunny day was enjoyed by both players and spectators. It was a fitting end to a brilliant week and the club was very well represented by our own members in the finals. A special congratulations to Carrigaline Tennis Club members Mark Healy, James O'Leary, Richard Finn, Ken Molloy, Sean Murphy, Rachel O’Brien, Jordan Hughes, Louise Cogan, Sean Murphy, Padraig O’Driscoll, Chris Walsh, Karen Holmes and Shannon Ramzam.
We would like to thank all participants for helping to make the tournament the success that it was. We also wish all players the very best of luck for the rest of the tournament season and hope to see you all back in Carrigaline for our Summer Open Doubles Tournament which will take place in June.
Finally, a huge thank you to the Tournament sponsor Stephen Kiely of Haven Electrical.

Astra Summer Open Doubles Tournament 2022

The Astra Senior Open Doubles Tournament 2022 took place between 22nd June and 2nd July.

Once again, a big thank you to Steve McCarthy from Astra Construction for his great sponsorship.

With a maximum entry of over 250 players from Clubs all over Cork County, a wonderful standard of tennis was on display for the eleven days despite the challenging weather conditions at times. Congratulations to the Finalists and all those who participated in the tournament. Local Clubs were well represented on Finals Day.

Thanks also go to our other sponsors for their generous sponsorship which helped to make the Tournament such a success.

Clonakilty Distillers sponsored a Gin Night along with Prizes for the Barbeque Night which was run by Box Pirate Street Kitchen.

Supervalu, Kilmoney Stores and The Cork Meat Company contributed to help make the running of the Kitchen a great success throughout the week.

Well done to Alan Kelly, Tournament Organiser, and his team for a very well organised Event and to the Kitchen Committee, Deirdre, Kathleen and Denise for organising supplies and volunteers, thus keeping the competitors and supporters fed and watered for the week.

Thanks to all the members who volunteered for the Kitchen Rota, made Salads and Home Baked. Not forgetting Alison, who kept the Kitchen stocked with her famous Sausage Rolls.
