The Astra Senior Open Doubles Tournament 2022 took place between 22nd June and 2nd July.
Once again, a big thank you to Steve McCarthy from Astra Construction for his great sponsorship.
With a maximum entry of over 250 players from Clubs all over Cork County, a wonderful standard of tennis was on display for the eleven days despite the challenging weather conditions at times. Congratulations to the Finalists and all those who participated in the tournament. Local Clubs were well represented on Finals Day.
Thanks also go to our other sponsors for their generous sponsorship which helped to make the Tournament such a success.Clonakilty Distillers sponsored a Gin Night along with Prizes for the Barbeque Night which was run by Box Pirate Street Kitchen.
Supervalu, Kilmoney Stores and The Cork Meat Company contributed to help make the running of the Kitchen a great success throughout the week.
Well done to Alan Kelly, Tournament Organiser, and his team for a very well organised Event and to the Kitchen Committee, Deirdre, Kathleen and Denise for organising supplies and volunteers, thus keeping the competitors and supporters fed and watered for the week.
Thanks to all the members who volunteered for the Kitchen Rota, made Salads and Home Baked. Not forgetting Alison, who kept the Kitchen stocked with her famous Sausage Rolls.
Carrigaline Tennis Club Spring Senior Open Doubles 2022 took place between 23rd March and 2nd April 2022. This was the first year that points were available.

The Finals of the Astra Senior Open Tournament took place on Saturday 3rd June after a great week of Tennis. There were over 350 entries from Clubs all over Cork competing in 16 categories.
Congratulations to all the winners and runners-up who played so well despite the absence of spectators due to Covid restrictions. Prizes were presented by Eddie Pierce, Club Chairman and Cian Blake, Club Coach and Co-Captain of the recent Irish Davis Cup Team. The Club is very grateful to Stephen McCarthy of Astra Construction for very generously sponsoring the event.
Carrigaline was well represented on Finals Day with Susan O’Donovan and Linda Murphy taking the honours in Ladies Grade 3. A number of other Carrigaline pairings were runners up in their events including Ger O’Connor and Dec Thornton in Grade 6, Helen Ronayne and Janet O’Sullivan in Grade 5, Tim O’Donovan and Raphael Cabral in Grade 4, Denise Hobbs and partner in Ladies Grade 2 and Martin Sulir and partner in Mixed Grade 2.
Our neigbouring club in Crosshaven also had a number of wins on the day including Eoin Moynihan and Joanne Riordan in Grade 1 and Kevin Moynihan and Niamh Griffin in Grade 2 - all representing Crosshaven Tennis Club. Thanks to Club Captain Alan Kelly and his team for running a great tournament, to Aoife Ní Cheallacháin and her team for running the kitchen, to Myriam Cotter for taking photos, to Noel Ronayne for keeping the club compliant with Covid-19 guidance and to all the volunteers who helped with clean-ups and landscaping in preparation for the event.
